SageGlass Unplugged
No More Shades!
The SageGlass® Unplugged™ electronically tintable skylight system provides a beautiful and cost-effective way to optimize and control sunlight without blinds or shades, so you can manage glare and heat while maintaining a view to the outdoors. The solar charged battery powered system is factory installed and wireless.
SageGlass Unplugged is remote controlled with your mobile device. Simply download a free iOS or Android SageGlass app!
The SageGlass Unplugged system can group multiple skylights into zones which are controlled together by the SageGlass app. A single system can control multiple zones. A zone is defined as a single skylight or a group of skylights that will tint simultaneously.

The SageGlass coating blocks solar heat before it enters the building, meaning there’s significantly less air conditioning costs. By contrast, shades and blinds do not block heat from entering your home. You might not feel heat directly if shades are drawn, but the heat still gets in and must be tempered by air conditioning.
By eliminating the need for shades, SageGlass preserves views of the outdoors – the reason we have windows and skylights in the first place. And by negating the costs of these add-ons – e.g., purchase price, installation, cleaning, maintenance – you save money.
Energy Efficiency
More than 30 percent of a building’s energy goes out the window, literally. Not with SageGlass. In its tinted state it reduces cooling costs and, in its clear state, reduces heating and lighting costs.

Explanation of Terms:
VLT (Visible Light): Radiant energy from 380nm – 780nm wavelengths. (% Transmittance): percentage of visible light directly transmitted through glass.
U-Factor: Air-to-air thermal conductance of glass and associated air/gas layers; units are Btu/hr.ft2 deg F.
SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient): Fraction of solar energy transferred indoors both directly (radiation) and indirectly (convection/absorption/re-radiation) through the glass (for reference, 1/8″ clear glass has a SHGC of 0.86).
The SageGlass Unplugged electronically tintable skylight system can group multiple skylights into zones which are controlled together via apps for iOS or Android. A single SageGlass Unplugged system can control multiple zones. A zone is defined as a single skylight or a group of skylights that will tint simultaneously. Automatic daylight control can also be achieved using only the solar panels to monitor the intensity of sunlight.
The SageGlass Unplugged system consists of a SageGlass insulated glass unit (IGU) with attached solar panel and a controller module that includes a wireless controller and solar rechargeable battery ➊, one or more SageConnect coordinators ➋ which manage the wireless network*, and WiFi router ➌ to interface with mobile devices ➍. The WiFi router available with the system is optional – you may choose to use your existing household router.
How SageGlass Works
SageGlass panes are coated with five layers of ceramic materials for a total thickness of less than 1/50th of a human hair. When a low voltage (less than 5V) is applied across the coatings, ions travel from one layer to another layer, prompting a reversible solid-state change that causes the coating to tint and absorb light. In other words, the glass gets darker. Reversing the polarity of the applied voltage causes the ions to migrate back to their original layer, untinting the glass. A darkened state enables SageGlass to absorb and reradiate away the sun’s unwanted heat and glare. A clear state allows you to maximize daylight and solar energy.
* For proper system communication, all skylights (IGUs) must be within 50′ of the SageConnect coordinator or within 50’ of a skylight (IGU) that is within 50’ of the SageConnect coordinator.
